Lovely feature – From China Village

This morning I am tore up from the floor up to share with you an exciting feature featuring yours truly over on Emily Westbrooks’s website, From China Village! Emily got in contact with me about a new feature she was rolling out on her website – meeting up with bloggers in their favourite blogging environments. Emily asked if I’d like to show her around the charity shop / thrifting scene and of course, I was well up for it.
Look how co-ordinated we are with our stripes and North American accents. Well played. Click on over to Emily’s feature – Let’s Meet Bloggers Face to Face // Alex of Hydrangea Girl – to read all about our day at Merchants Market, and you can see me doing what I do best; digging through stuff, finding weird, unusual and cat-related items, and making faces.

For those of you curious to know if I took home the crazy-cat-lady-teapot I found, um, hell yes I did …

… Look at her – helping herself to a plate full of sausages, a slight crazed look in her eye and a if I’m not mistaken, blood dripping from the corners of her mouth. Or possibly sloppy artistry. Who wouldn’t bring her home? But in all seriousness, I’m on the lookout for some ceramic paint or pens so I can give her a bit of a makeover. Friendlier eyes, a less gross ensemble, and maybe a pretty flowery plate. I think I’ll keep the bloody grin though. Accidental or not.

ADDED BONUS – I fancied up a map of one of my favourite Dublin charity shop routes for Emily in conjunction with my thrifty feature – Alex’s Dublin Charity Shop Tour. It’s one of my favourite charity shop routes in the heart of the Dublin city centre, and is perfect if you’re stuck for time as you can easily hit all 6 shops in 20 minutes if you’re in a hurry.

Thank you so much Emily for being such great company, both online and in person {oh god – mustn’t forget Julie the uber cool photographer too!}, for being such great sources of inspiration, for the pep talks and for letting me get carried away. xx A

My Style – House and Home

Is today ever a happy Friday. This week I got my mitts on the new House and Home magazine, which = double excitement all up in here. Back in May my OCD finally paid off when I was asked to not only write but style the feature for the July / August copy of the magazine. Um, hell yes.
I’ve done some styling here and there but this would be my printed styling debut. To say I was bricking it was an understatement, but the moment I met Michelle and Andy, my mind was put at ease. They are the coolest and most down to earth couple, not to mention they’re crazy-talented with their thriving typographical printing business – DesignMyType. I had a great afternoon with them in their quirky, colourful and fun apartment.

Stylin’ on so many levels. I snapped this cheeky pic of myself on the day, which to my surprise, managed to sneak onto page 8 of the mag!

You can pick up the July / August copy of House and Home magazine on shelves now and check out the full feature on Michelle and Andy’s home, and of course, the rest of the mag which is full of swoon-worthy design articles, tips and tricks.
I think tonight we will have a little celebration of my styling debut {any excuse really}. We’re also due to get some cracking weather here in Dublin, and I cannot wait to break out the picnic blanket and have some fun in le sun. It is long overdue.
Happy Friday, homies! 😉 xx A

Lovely mention – Modes & Travaux

Bienvenue à tous qui me redent visite aujourd’hui grace à la gentille mention dans la Modes & Travaux!* If today you are visiting my website thanks to my lovely mention in Modes & Travaux magazine, welcome!
I got a very sweet e-mail from Tiphaine of Modes & Travaux magazine in March asking about my himmeli tutorial – she wanted to feature my string and straw structure in their May issue of the magazine and I of course jumped at the opportunity. Who wouldn’t?

I flicked through their online magazine this morning and from what I’ve seen, I’m so humbled to have my himmeli along side such awesome tutorials and handmade delights. There’s one particular DIY elsewhere in the magazine involving what looks like a re-purposed dresser given new drawers of vegetable and milk crates that looks right up my alley {I even oogled something similar years ago}. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of the magazine.

Note to self – learn French.

Should you be so lucky to be in France some time this month, you can pick up a copy of Modes & Travaux for €2.20 on news stands available as and from today! xx A

*A massive thank you to Dara for the French translation. My primary and secondary school French teachers would be so disappointed in me.
