Mini makeover – attacked with tape

I’ve been attacking things around my apartment this week, and my alternative weapon of choice was electrical tape. As crazy as it sounds,  it transforms any basic shaped storage easily into a punch of stripes. And please believe me when I say the electrical tape is no way obvious. Fiance was well impressed when I showed him this mini project and couldn’t believe it was thanks to tape.
Easy as one, two, three: all you need for this project is two contrasting shades of electrical tape, and a pair of scissors. It takes under five minutes, a steady hand, and a good eye for straight lines. It’s so simple and can update any piece you have in stead of buying a new one.

Other items I’ve covered recently were empty Pringles tins {to house my knitting needles}, empty hot chocolate containers {now home to my pens and pencils}, and this large chunky ceramic red vase, whose colour did hurt my eye balls, but it was such a handy size for storage around our apartment, so I simply took a trip to our local hardware store and attacked it with tape. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Happy New Year Alex, just been catching up on your blog posts. Love the cross stitch that you created. The hubby and I loved that prog, we adore british comedy, and that was one of our favs. My hubby is an IT geek too. He part owns an ISP, and I love him to bits….Love how you collect corks, what an awesome idea, love how you have written on them as well. Such a novel idea. Here in NZ we tend to have more screw tops for our wine, whilst we still have corks screw tops seem to be everywhere and it's not quite the same.

Funnily enough I only tried mulled wine for the first time just before xmas and I have to say I quite enjoyed it, it was real mulled wine no packet stuff here.

Congrats on getting your pendant tutorial published. Loved the tray makeover. BTW was it three days before fiancee noticed said changes?

Happy New Year to you too Janine! I'm glad you and hubby liked my cross stitch! I'm quite proud of it. I quite like nerdy things.

We have mostly screw-top wine bottles here in Ireland – well, I should say the cheaper wine does. I am one gal who likes cheap wine. But we do splash out on the fancy corked stuff, occasionally.

Re: tray makeover, he actually noticed within 30 minutes of coming home! The one time I try to catch him out …

    Well done!
And thankfully so much less expensive than washi tape.
I may have to hit up Canadian Tire later 😉
Happy new year, btw. I am also just catching up on normal life again… thank goodness!

Happy New year to you too, Mel! We're only just recovering from the holidays. It got pretty crazy there for a second.

I've always wondered what the hype around washi tape was. The patterns are cute, but after that point, I don't get it.
