A little less conversation, a little more grey

I’m slowly easing my way back into a normal routine now that I’m officially finished college! I have my BA in Interior Design and am happy, and also a little bit proud of myself for sticking with it to the end – four years of studying at night and working full time. And sometimes no sleep in between.
For the first time in what feels like an age, I have time for myself! And my first of many projects going on at the moment – my living room. I had painted two {overdone} focal walls in true marble by Crown Paints – I adore this color, but it’s a touch too dark for my east facing apartment and I’m up for a change. I’m going for a much lighter, calmer grey all over and have been searching for some inspiring images.
I also would like to point out that grey is not a depressing color. Well, as in the weather we experience here in Ireland, yes it is, but on walls, hell no! Grey makes everything else in the room POP! It’s an amazing backdrop and should be experimented with. I adore seeing more and more grey walls out there.
Enough typing. Onto the images.

The best thing about grey walls is how well they take light and pattern. We have gray walls with two large windows that let in light from sun up until set. A hanging plant, circa 1950's faux lantern chandelier, or even a humming bird silhouette all neatly framed in a window pane on the wall that changes with the day (or clever placement of objects) has become my ever changing wallpaper.

I agree with you there Anonymous. Grey walls do take light well. In fact, I'm heading into town to get that very shade for my walls!

    Your living/dining room sounds heavenly.

Ahh, was not up to creating an account last night.

I always wanted a bedroom in the "dove grey” often used in romance novels to describe some sort of regency era item of clothing. Do you know…I have not yet seen a can labeled Dove Grey- and even then I don't know if it would be the same color I see in my head? As it is, I live in a rental and the landlord had painted the living room and dinning rooms in a very nice grey that I have come to love.

Oh! I don't know what color it is either, right now one wall is kind of lavender looking, another somewhat skin tone, and another could only be described as gun metal. It is impossible for me to describe what the actual color is since it picks up the color of he light.

I think I have an idea of what you mean by 'dove grey'. Are you allowed to repaint your apartment? I never asked, but I've been painting ours. But super subtle colors, so I think it'll be okay. It's better than the previous stark white. I like grey a lot. Yeah, I just kind of noticed my blog is predominantly grey.

We can paint if we intend on painting it all back to the original colors…too much work. There is only one room I seriously thought about painting, and that is the bathroom. The tub is a teal green (you know that color that was big in the 50’s for appliances and such) which would have been kind of cool, but the landlord matched the walls to the tub. It was so overwhelming. I like fall colors best, lots of browns and burnt umbers. It turns out that a dark chocolate rug and towels was just the trick. The color combo is now one of my favorites…and I have noticed a lot of packaging lately with the same colors. I may not be a trend setter, but apparently I am a trend anticipator 😉

Funny you should say that, our bathroom was the first room I repainted in our apartment. It was s color I could only describe as 'toothpaste'. Suiting, I suppose but it made the skirting look yellow. But by the sounds of it, ours wasn't nearly as retro as your is. Well done for embracing it with brown!
